US i3 Deliveries Begin!

i3s sitting at a port in the US awaiting vehicle carriers to take them to dealerships
BMW of North America issued a press release today confirming that US i3 deliveries have begun. Not such a surprise since as of yesterday dealers across the country began taking in i3s.

BMW of North America's CEO Ludwig Willisch said of the i3 launch: Today marks a big day at BMW of North America – What started out as a dream for an innovative sustainable vehicle under the BMW i brand can now be found on streets across the U.S.”

There are currently hundreds of i3s in the US, either at the port, dealerships or en-route to the dealership. However only the BEV i3 is being released at the moment. The range extended version (REx) is still being held up at the port for what is assumed finalization of the EPA certifications. That is expected to be finished very soon and the REx vehicles can then begin shipping to dealers also.
And so it begins...

So the Thwaites are getting a new i3? When I read their blog, it sounded like they were gonna break the piggy bank and buy a Model S.

    1. Yeah, I guess they decided the i3 was better for them at the moment. I love the Model S also, but like me, I can't imagine Michael driving such a large car. They actually just picked it up their i3 from the dealer yesterday. I think both they as well as I will be eying a Tesla Model E as our i3 replacement in 2017/2018 when the Model E becomes available.

  3. The plural of i3 is i3s. Apostrophe-s is not a plural. “i3’s” is possessive. That means plural possessive is i3s’.

    1. Unfortunately nothing concrete. It's been rumored that the EPA certification is now complete and once the Monroney labels are printed and applied they will be released for m the port. Could be as soon as early next week

  5. Maybe you'd can help with this question. My car was totalled in an accident in Monday, I really want to replace it with an i3. Will I be able to talk into a local dealer and get one? I don't want the extended range. I can't tell what the availability is and I don't want to talk to a salesperson to find out!

    1. There aren't any i3s currently in dealerships that aren't reserved. It's possible within a couple weeks that may change but you will definitely need to call all of the BMW dealers in your area and check if they have any unsold inventory coming in any time soon.
